This month there is so much to talk about, where do I start?

The Annual Conference went off with a Bang, as Nigel Risner started by challenging us to do things differently. One thing that he said that I took away from was to be 100% responsible for everything; if we took 100% responsibility things would look very differently. Next up was Andy Gilbert from Go Mad Thinking who tied us all up in knots with a demonstration to challenge our thinking skills.

We then split into different streams.

Jane Massy from abdi gave stream one an overview of delivering real and demonstrable value with training. Whilst stream two listened to Dr. Peter Scott from the OU on his view of new media technologies and the future that they hold.

After lunch stream one listened to David Evans from Grass roots talk about how to get the best out of people by following his example. Whilst Nathan Baker from RSME gave an over view of his case study of a consortium coming together to deliver training to the Military.

Stream one then heard Steve Rayson from Kineo tell us about real life successes with McDonalds and Marks and Spencers while stream two heard Jane Hart from C4PLT talk about informal and social learning.

We ended the day with the Big Question “Are L&D spending cuts creating a skills gap that is hurting the UK economic recovery and if so, how can we reduce it?”
Our panel gave us their views for 5 minutes each, which are summarised on Twitter. Then the groups worked to try to answer the question too.

The output for this will be available to all who attended.

The event was recorded on Video by Phil Simms from DeltaNet – our thanks to him and DeltaNet for all their support. This will be uploaded to the website shortly.
